Community And Museums- New Era With The Help From The New Technologies

By Eleonora Semelidou

The relationship of the communities to their museums has been altered and modified drastically during the last five years in Greece mainly as a result of the financial crisis and its consequences upon the Greek society, who sees week by week to lose many of the working privileges that previous generations of employers have earned alongside to suffer bad medical services, to pay too many taxes, to lose a great amount of money from their pensions and salaries and have no substantial education.

All the aforementioned have been depicted on the leisure and amusement preferences of the communities, who prefer to spend their Sunday on a walk or in a coffee shop instead of visiting a museum. At this point, it has to be mentioned that decades of bad administration on behalf of the Ministry of Culture has resulted in building too many museums of which the bulk majority is crudely designed, organized and functioned. Unfortunately, these attributes cannot guarantee their survival for that most of them has been closed, while others are going to in the future. The aforementioned situation has become even worse during COVID era.

This anomaly is going to be minimized by the use of new technologies that will assist us in producing an online museum, where an usual (in our case) exhibit will be presented; however, the same platform and the same rational behind this can be applied elsewhere. Here, we will present you our proposal, an online museum with the hope that it can offer the solution to such as the aforementioned problems.
